You might be wondering if anyone still reads emails from companies. And do those emails still work in generating leads and sales. The answer is yes, it does! Email marketing actually still works extremely well (when done well).

The Power of Email Marketing

Email marketing is still very effective today. According to Statista, there were 3.9 billion email users world-wide in 2019 and that number is expected to grow. With this amount of people using email globally, the opportunity to use email as a means to reach your customers is one you don’t want to skip out on.

While many companies send out emails regularly and literally billions of emails are sent and received each day, email marketing still hold s strong return on investment (ROI). DMA reports that on average you can expect a return of $42 for every $1 you invest in email marketing. That’s a pretty high ROI! Email marketing provides an amazing opportunity to reach your customers and earn a big return for the time and money you put into it.

So, What is Email Marketing?

Email marketing is, well, marketing through the use of email. It’s about connecting with your customers and target audiences, building a relationship with them, and helping them learn more about your business, what you have to offer, and how your business can help them. There are many tactics and strategies used in email marketing such as promotional emails, newsletters, product launches, and more. Mail Chimp gives a great overview of some tried-and-true email tactics in their Email Marketing 101 guide.

How Do I Get Started?

Once you decide what type of emails you want to focus on (newsletters, promotional, send coupons and great deals, etc.) then you need to  build your email list. A great way to do this is to add a section on your website where people can submit their email to subscribe to your newsletter or opt-in to receive updates on products and promotional offers. Another great way to build your list is through a rewards program or in-store promotions and sign-ups. Find what works best for your business. As you work to find ways to build your email list and begin creating emails to send, be sure to familiarize yourself with the rules and regulations in place by the GDPR and CCPA about consumer privacy and customers opting-in.

Once you’ve created a good system for customers to be added to your email list, then you’ll want to begin focusing on content! Content is everything when it comes to creating emails that people will actually want to read. Focus on building a relationship with the reader and providing them with content they will find interesting and useful. This will look different for every business. As you brainstorm ideas and begin to plan out your email strategy and content, you’ll want to keep your email marketing efforts organized and create a seamless process from idea generation to emails delivered.
